andCurve boosted by site redesign, new content urged

Sunday, January 28th, 2007 by Kevin Teljeur

Well, the title says it all, really. It also sort of gives away my reading of too much news and ‘current affairs’; a world inhabited by teens, where people urge one another to do things, where things are boosted, a world where anonymous people make claims about issues, and where inevitably, Pat Rabbitte will claim that Fianna Fail and the rising tide of immigrants are to blame. I should stop, and in fact, I have a new hobby now.

If you’re reading this on the site, then you can see a difference, certainly. If you’re looking at this through an RSS vortex warp hyperfeed generator, then I’d like to know what you’re munching on, because I just made that up, and you should get yourself over here to the site proper and have a look. That’s right, it’s been redesigned, and overhauled, you’ll see new features here and there, and I think on the whole the site is better and easier to use than before. I even figured out how to deal with GarretSpam! I’m only getting started, too; I still have to deal with some technologies I got my hands on for displaying images, a site software upgrade (WordPress has gone up to version 2.1 while I’ve been sleeping; this site is at 1.5.1.1.1.1.1), and maybe some more bits and pieces.

This would all be pointless without regular content updates, and while I’ll never be able to reach the dizzying heights of Tadhg’s one-piece-every-fecking-day-come-rain-or-shine strategy, I’ll do my best.

Incidentally, the site looks like shit in Internet Explorer. I’ll fix that as soon as possible, but let’s face it, you should be using Firefox to do your web browsing anyhow.

edited later that same day: Props to Tadhg for getting me onto the Thickbox JS code which I’m now using to display the images; go on, try it! I might switch to the more elegant Lightbox JS, which is more beautiful but requires some work, and is also a larger download for yourselves.

Also, please comment, at the moment the comment feed is only Garret’s feedback and variety might be nice.

How’s it going mister? Glad to see you’re up andRunning again. Here’s the link for cheaper photo printing ya asked for – http://www.bonusprint.ie/ Go forth and print. I’ll let ya know when the third series of Battlestar Gallactica is done in the states. I want!

Oh, meant to say the new look site is great. Don’t get all the new tech things that are on it. But it looks good!

An inquiry is being launched into allegations of cheap stuff availability, the public has been urged to comment.

I’m sure you did mean it, but instead you somehow came out with cheap stuff. You’ve got your priorities sorted, at any rate ;-)

I like the new design, although I think the right-hand nav needs something. I’m not sure what that something is, but it doesn’t seem quite as sharp as the rest of the site.

Glad you like Thickbox. Lightbox is good too, and at this point I can’t remember exactly why I went for Thickbox—possibly because Thickbox uses jQuery, which I’m quite fond of.

You know, you could always try posting every day to see what happens! I think it’s worked pretty well for me so far.

(BTW, any chance you could change the link to my site to use .com instead of .net? They go to the same place, but .com is where I’m trying to direct everything.)

Yeah, the right-hand nav is supposed to be as simple and understated as possible, but it’s unfinished. Part of that is that I have to write new plugins for outputting the ‘Archives’ and ‘Categories’; they currently don’t allow for much customisation.

Lightbox is good, but is also much bigger, and the default layout and interface is not too user-friendly. It could better, and changing that will take time. Still, it’s better than the way I have been doing it. Now to re-write that damn image-handling plugin…

Posting every day is fine if you have something to say every day, and also the time. Although, I shouldn’t make too many excuses there. I also like photos in my posts and I have to get away from that a bit. It’s fair to say that my writing is better than my photos are.

Thanks for the link to tadhg.com, if andcurve is the major label album release of Kev prose, there are a couple of unreleased tracks and b sides over there, like this beaut on the important things in life:

And sex. Man, I think sex is right up there, nothing beats a good rough shag with the womens of your heart. Or, well, some sort of variation there of, horses for courses. With money and power, I think it comes along in due course.

    That and coke.

Actually, you’re spot on about that, I have posted some cracking comments on other people’s sites. I’ve even quoted them here if I’ve come out with a real gem, if I think it helps whatever aimless point that I’m making. Hmm… Maybe there’s a way of capturing those comments from other sites, I have thought about it before.

Just so you can all keep tabs on me.

Send me a recent photo too, just a small one please, and that goes for the rest of you too.

Thank you, to both Daves, by the way! I’m hoping to get a good pace going this year. My writing is rusty but I miss it very much.
