How I earn a living
 

I work as a web developer for a company in Dublin, Ireland, which is Parallel Internet (also known to some as pTools). I build web sites, I do some lightweight programming, I ‘skin’ content management systems, and generally fix stuff and answer questions for people. I’m even starting to manage some projects which is a scary prospect.

I’ve been here on and off for about 5 years now; since 2nd October 2000, actually, until… 27th June 2003. Then, I mysteriously reappeared as a contractor/part-time worker on 10th June 2004 until 1st March 2005 when I became full-time again. The reason I’m being so specific about the dates is partially to clear things up for anyone who is wondering what I’ve been up to, and partly because I’m incredibly anal about these things so it makes me feel like ‘my shop is in order’.

That break in-between was me heading off for some travel; so in there is some stuff with me doing farm-work, picking apples, packing apples and being the Administrative Support Officer for the Pest Control Program in the Regulatory, Compliance and Review Unit of the Environmental Health Unit of the Department of Human Services of Victoria State Government. Basically, I had the least important job in Victoria State Government (or should that be Civil Service?) but it was fun and educational, and with a great bunch of people, who I don’t have enough contact with…
