Today was my first day back at work in 2006, and I proudly joined the aggressive cunts going to work. In fact, I was one of them, cursing the slowness and inefficiency of the fools in front of me. Had one of them keeled over, dead from exhaustion, I would have gladly stepped over his or her cooling corpse in order to get ahead in the crowd, and get to the office that precious 3 minutes earlier.

Yeah, that’s my New Year’s sermon. It’s all about the benjamins, and fucking over some bastard that gets in my way as I climb to the top. I’m putting together my 2006 Plan, and I don’t look forward to the part where I have to think ahead to the next 5 years too, because that’s something I’ll have to do in the next month or two. I’m not getting any younger, and I need to start thinking about what’s next. You can tell I’ve been talking to thirty-something year-old women, can’t you? But it’s true, I have to. I have to think hard about my work situation, and where that’s going, and also about what I’m going to go and do later in the year. Japan and Romania both beckon this year, I’m going to have paid off all my debts quite shortly and be that rare thing in Ireland today, a thirty-something male with no debts (well, none to the bank; I’m sure I owe something to someone.) and in a number of ways free to do whatever the fuck I want.

On the bright side, I went for a run in the morning. I can start my 2006 plan by cutting a few inches off my tubby waistline. And pricing some language learning stuff for Japanese, Czech and Romanian.

More on all of this later, I have to tie up some loose ends, get some shit done and then I can do my 2005 round-up and my 2006 plan. And my thoughts on the first of the political parties here to try banking on xenophobia to win the next election. The Labour party as Brown Shirts? Oh no! There is much to be done and so little time…

First Anniversary of sorts

Strange and bizarre as it may seem, I lost my cherry a year to the day (I think; I’m pretty sure it was in the early hours of Saturday 30th). I tell you, as messy and unromantic as it was, it was still something I’d been jonesing for for the best part of a decade […]

Strange and bizarre as it may seem, I lost my cherry a year to the day (I think; I’m pretty sure it was in the early hours of Saturday 30th). I tell you, as messy and unromantic as it was, it was still something I’d been jonesing for for the best part of a decade or more. Mind you, I haven’t had a particularly celebratory day and I felt pretty odd today. Partly because I think I might have a small medical problem that I really need to get checked out in a hurry, and partly because Therese called from Bankok. Which was great, don’t get me wrong, but I hadn’t expected to hear from her and of course it was more than a little emotional. I was also trying to get a big pile of photos scanned for the girls to give to Dee (who is flying out to meet the other two in Bankok tomorrow afternoon) so they… could look at them I suppose. I’m not sure why it’s important.

I had hoped to write more this weekend because there’s a lot I want to get out there, and to code as well because I have to finish the Media Manager plugin for WordPress and also Keith’s gallery javascript, but it’s been sort of unproductive and I haven’t even managed to shave the few remaining hairs off my head. I should probably do that now.

Oh yes, and after a beautiful start to the day (which I missed due to taking my sleep very, very seriously) it pissed down. It’s a shame, because apparently this morning would have been good for seeing Mars in the skies, and I actually have a peculiar fascination with the Red Planet.

Any coffee lovers out there? Have a read of this at the Guardian about coffee and whether or not it’s good for you. Or bad. I’m divided myself; I only drank coffee for the first time less than two years ago and I can tell you, the kick was something else to behold. I have a healthy respect for the stuff now, and I do have a coffee every few afternoons to help move me along but I try to not make a habit of it, and I’ve also banned myself from drinking it in the morning. If you can’t get by without a stimulant every day, you have a problem and should see a doctor. Really. Tea, I find, isn’t really much better on the front; I drink more tea than coffee, but I have to say that the effects are milder and I think it probably has more beneficial effects.
