Some early observations on WordPress

Sunday, September 4th, 2005 by Kevin Teljeur

Christ, it’s Sunday night and I’m still hammering away at this site. Nearly there. I have to say, WordPress surprised me; about the only thing I’d like it to do is a good OOP photoblog, and I haven’t really had a good look at the plug-ins I downloaded today which probably cover all of that.

As I mentioned before (which reminds me, I see that this business of getting author profiles and the like works fantastically – until you try to get the admin profile. So from now on, I’m posting as Kevin the User, not Kevin the Admin because it’smore consistent) I started setting this up so I could get the hang of it for when my girlfriend and her girleens head off around the world in a few short weeks, by which time I’ll have to have a site up for them to natter away on about all their experiences, bless ‘em. But now I’m actually taking a real interest into this software; it’s remarkable that people pay what they do for this kind of software (I do this stguff for a living so I know) when there is this WordPress out there for free. It’s not perfect, and I will write my own as I’ve planned, but even so it’s raised the bar for me.

I also should go to bed. It’s late.
