Quite ingenious, actually; this guy, Alex Tew, goes and sells every of his 1,000 by 1,000 pixel homepage on ebay. It seems he has made rather a lot of money from it. Or is it ingenious? He’s not doing anything particularly clever, after all, just auctioning pixels on his page to desperate fools who need to be more closely observed by their parole officers. Either way, it’s worth a look, because this is the way the web could end up… (and indeed, Capel Street)

Yeah I heard about this a while back. Just shows that some companies are idiot enough to pay for it. It’s mostly casinos, pills etc.

I believe that Alex’s site still generates some indirect value for advertisers at least by improving their visibility in search engines. It has a PageRank of 7 and many still continue to add links to it (by the way, this article has just added one link). So, getting the link from website with such a high PageRank for as low as 1$ it is clearly a reasonable investment.
